One of the things we noticed about Tucson is its lack of street lights.  For a city, it's really dark! We asked why and the answer we got:  Kitt Peak!  Kitt Peak is a national observatory founded in the 1950's and operated by the National Optimal Astronomy Observatory (NOAO.)
